Connecting Cumbria Unveils Digital Infrastructure Strategy 2026–2030

Cumberland Council and Westmorland and Furness Council have launched the Cumbria Digital Infrastructure Strategy 2026–2030, setting out an ambitious plan to improve digital connectivity and support Cumbria’s £12bn economy.

Building on the success of the 2020–2025 strategy, this aims to deliver world‑class digital infrastructure, including gigabit‑capable broadband, improved mobile coverage, and opportunities for 5G innovation. A central commitment of the strategy is that no one and no place in Cumbria is left behind, with a strong focus on rural and hard‑to‑reach communities.

The strategy’s action plan will focus on ensuring Cumbria’s voice is heard nationally, supporting public and commercial investment, developing local solutions that go beyond national targets, and monitoring future technological developments.

Local councils can play an important role by highlighting connectivity issues and supporting delivery in their communities.
