Could You Share Your Story?
Help Inspire the Next Generation of Councillors
CALC is looking for town and parish councillors who would be willing to share their experience of local council life through a short written blog or video blog. The aim is to showcase the real people behind local councils and encourage more people to consider standing for election in 2027.
Whether you’ve recently joined your council or have many years of experience, your story could help someone else take their first step into local democracy. We want to highlight the diverse backgrounds, experiences and motivations of councillors across Cumbria and demonstrate the valuable contribution local councils make to their communities.
What could you talk about?
You might like to share:
- Why you decided to become a councillor
- What inspired or motivated you to stand for election
- What you enjoy most about the role
- Skills, knowledge or confidence you have gained
- The difference your council makes in the community
- A project or achievement you are particularly proud of
- What you would say to someone considering becoming a councillor
Written Blogs or Video Blogs Welcome
We’re looking for authentic, personal reflections rather than formal statements. If you’d prefer to record a short video, we’re asking for an informal clip of around 1–3 minutes, sharing your experience in your own words. Don’t worry about being polished or scripted – genuine stories are what matter most.
Why Get Involved?
By sharing your experience, you’ll help:
- Raise awareness of the role of town and parish councillors
- Challenge common misconceptions about becoming a councillor
- Demonstrate the positive impact local councils have on their communities
- Encourage a broader and more diverse range of people to consider standing for election in 2027
If you’d like to take part, please get in touch with the CALC team. Your story could inspire someone to make a difference in their community through local council service.
