The Cumbria Association of Local Councils (CALC) is a membership organisation run by local councils for the benefit of local councils, assisting councils in their day-to-day work and representing their interests.
Skelton Parish Council have a vacancy for a part time Parish Clerk/Responsible Financial Officer. Working hours are flexible but will be 18 per month. The role will involve working from home except for the bi-monthly evening meetings.
Salary is in line with NJC national salary agreement and is reviewed annually.
A laptop will be provided.

The parish of Skelton includes the villages and hamlets of Ellonby, Lamonby, Unthank, Unthank End, Skelton Wood End, Laithes, Hutton End, Hutton Row, Braithwaite, Ivegill and Middlescueth. There are over 400 households in the area with over 1000 inhabitants in total.

Staveley-in-Cartmel Parish Council have a vacancy for a part time Parish Clerk/Responsible Financial Officer. Working hours are flexible and are 157 a year. The role will involve working from home, except for the meetings on a Monday evening alternate months at Staveley-in-Cartmel Parish Hall. Salary is in line with NJC national salary agreements and is dependent on experience and qualifications, plus an annual £200 home working allowance.
The Clerk is responsible for managing the Council’s administration including preparing agendas and minutes, implementing decisions, complying with legislation, submitting updates for the website, updating the noticeboards, checking defibrillators and acting as the contact person for the Council. As Responsible Financial Officer the role includes preparing the annual budget and Precept submission, preparing regular financial reports and preparing and submitting the annual accounts for audit. The position also includes acting as Clerk for a small local charity. The role would suit an experienced Clerk who is looking for additional hours or an individual with suitable skills willing to undertake training. Lamplugh Parish Council is looking to appoint a new parish Clerk who will also serve as its Responsible Financial Officer. Lamplugh has a population of around 800 parishioners and covers an area from Mockerkin Tarn to Frizington and from Blake Fell to Asby.
Job role:
The role will be home based, other than to attend council meetings (7 per annum). The Clerk will ensure the Council concludes its business correctly whilst providing independent, objective and professional advice to the Council.
Main responsibilities:
Planning, arranging and attending Council meetings (7 per annum-normally held on the3rd Wednesday evening by-monthly). Occasional attendance at planning meetings may be required.
Preparing meeting agendas and minute taking.
Financial administration: preparing accurate accounts using excel spreadsheets, external audit. Preparation of annual budget for the Council.
Carrying out decisions of the Council.
Communicating with members of the community on behalf of the Council and where appropriate ensuring advice and information is made available.
Checking email communications and distributing as necessary to members of the council.
Key Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Has previously worked in a similar administrative role including preparing agendas and taking and preparing minutes of meetings. Knowledge of Word, Excel and good general mathematic skills.
Education:
GCSE, A Level, Certificate in Local Council Administration – desirable (training for this qualification can be taken with the support of the council).
Salary:
The current number of hours worked per annum is 300 (~ 6 hours per week, flexible) and at the last review the rate per hour was £14.95. This rate depends on qualifications and experience and includes a pro rata holiday pay entitlement. This may be reviewed after a probationary period. Training, where necessary, will be provided. Travel costs are paid.

Colton Parish Council wishes to appoint a Parish Clerk/Responsible Financial Officer or a Locum Clerk. The Clerk is responsible for the day to day running of the Parish Council, including its finances, and the successful applicant will have excellent communication, finance and organisational skills.
Knowledge of Local Government organisation, governance and risk management is preferred.
